Eligibility Requirements for U.S. Championships

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS - AMATEUR COMPETITORS

1. UNITED STATES NATIONAL AMATEUR BALLROOM CHAMPIONSHIPS:  Properly registered amateur couples are eligible to dance in any closed amateur championship of the United States Ballroom Championships provided they have competed in a minimum of two NDCA sanctioned competitions in the previous twelve months.  Pro-rated variances for partnerships that have not existed for a full twelve months will be addressed by the NDCA Ballroom Department Committee.  In addition, each couple must fulfill one of the following criteria:

a. Both members of the partnership are United States citizens or United States Resident Aliens (Green Card holders).

b. One half of the partnership is a United States citizen or United States Resident Alien (Green Card holder), and the half of the partnership that is not a U.S. citizen or United States Resident Alien (Green Card holder) has resided in the USA for the previous 6 months.

(1) Any Non-U.S. citizen or Non-United States Resident Alien (Green Card holder) who has resided in the United States of America for less than the previous twelve months may be required to submit a photo copy of their passport showing the date they entered the USA before their entry into a closed United States National Championship may be accepted.

c. Both members of the partnership are non-United States citizens or non-United States Resident Aliens (Green Card holders), but both members of the partnership have resided in the USA for the previous 6 months.

(1) Any Non-U.S. citizen or non-United States Resident Alien (Green Card holder) who has resided in the United States of America for less than the previous twelve months may be required to submit a photo copy of their passport showing the date they entered the USA before their entry into a closed United States National Championship may be accepted.

The minimum of two NDCA sanctioned competitions in the previous twelve months requirement only applies to couples who dance the following Adult Amateur National Championships:
U.S. National Adult Amateur Ballroom Championship
U.S. National Adult Amateur Latin Championship
U.S. National Adult Amateur Rhythm Championship
U.S. National Adult Amateur Smooth Championship

The two-competition rule does not apply to couples who enter U.S. National Senior, Under-21, Youth, Junior I, Junior II, Pre-Teen I, and Pre-Teen II championships.
